Add This One To Your Dictionary Folks!

Today is going to be 31C. Way too hot for Rascal Boy to be wearing his navy blue tracksuit uniform pants to school, but he has been showing resistance to wearing shorts so far this year.
Yesterday the temperature jumped into the high twenties and I picked up a very hot and bothered boy from school, all red cheeked and sweaty, and way too cranky to be agreeable to anything, let alone homework. I wasn't about to go through that again, with the temperature rising by another few degrees.
I pulled out every pair of shorts Rascal Boy owns. I started with the navy blue ones (including denim) to try and get as close to school uniform colours as possible. The first two were woefully loose around his skinny frame. The third pair were some boardies that were hand-me-downs from my sister's boys and therefore slightly worn in. Rascal Boy hates the feel of new clothes. He slipped them on and, with the waist fitting snuggly around him, I thought we had success.
"They feel too sifty" he announces, squirming around.
"They feel wha'?" I respond.
"Sifty, they feel too sifty" he repeats, as if his mother is either deaf or stupid.
"And can you explain what sifty feels like?" I ask, hoping there is an answer to this, as sometimes there is not.
"Sifty is like an icypole stick" Of course that explains everything - NOT!
"Can you describe what that feels like?" I plead.
"You know when you hold an icypole stick? What the stick feels like on your fingers, that's sifty."
"Oh OK" I say, pretending I know exactly what he's talking about. A new one for the Asperger Dictionary.
Thankfully the fourth pair of shorts passed the test and even though they are not blue, the principal is just going to have to suck it up because I know I'll be picking up a cool, happy child from school this arvo.

Life must be challenging for you at times Smauge - but at least it still makes you laugh.

Such a gorgeous little story.
